Third
generation (3G) technology is on the horizon paving
the way to new applications and services such as
high speed Internet access, games, video conferencing
and high quality music as well as traditional voice.
The market is ready to adopt the 3G W-CDMA technology,
but the lack of commercial terminals is holding
back industry growth and putting heavy pressure
on market players.
The W-CDMA technology and the
3GPP standard put a barrier for introducing commercial
terminals to the marketplace. Somewhat contradictory
requirements to support high data rates of 384
kbps with multi-mode functionality of UMTS/GSM/GPRS
on one hand, without compromising on power consumption
and cost on the other, make implementing W-CDMA
baseband processors a challenging task.
Modem-Art’s
W-CDMA programmable baseband processor provides
the missing link. It is an integrated
chip-set coupled with embedded software that handles
the communications protocols required by single
mode 3G W-CDMA (UMTS) terminals as well as multimode
UMTS + GSM/GPRS terminals. Modem-Art’s baseband
processor is built on proprietary core technology
- the Programmable Modem Engine (PME) - a very
powerful physical layer processor optimized for
W-CDMA. |
